Also to clear things up:
YOu can pestilence slivers with protection from black, because the ability in pestilence doesnt target creatures or players. However it is dealing damage to the slivers, and damage from a source protected from is reduced to 0.
And Auras dont necessarily replace enchantments. Only an enchantment that enchants something, like an old "enchant creature" or "enchant land" or "enchant permanent" or anything like that is just considered as of now an "Enchantment- Aura" cardtype then in the abilities says what it enchants and how. Just plain old enchantments arent auras. makes sense. So matt plains weenies that kill auras cant kill what they have been, like julians Nihilistic Glee and Seal of Fire, etc.. But can still destroy thomas' shiny and new Crown of Fury or Crown of Awe.

"At the start of the combat damage step, if at least one attacking or blocking creature has double strike or first strike, creatures without double strike or first strike don’t assign combat damage. Instead of proceeding to end of combat, the phase gets a second combat damage step to handle the remaining creatures. In the second combat damage step, surviving attackers and blockers that didn’t assign combat damage in the first step, plus any creatures with double strike, assign their combat damage."
So all it does is apply to creatures. And the flanking thing we were right about. Flanking doesnt necessarily stack like two flanking makes -2,-2. Instead its -1,-1 then a second -1,-1
also you should all look up the "Epic" cards I suppose we missed in the latest blocks. Yes there is actually an ability called "Epic" which a handful of spells have.

Wait wait wait. Double strike. We are basically noobs. First of all, if a creature has double strike it hits everything twice. If a double strike creature can kill its blocker in one hit, it deals its second hit to the players life total without dying. If it has no one to block it, it hits the player for its first strike damage, then deals its normal damage. It basically doubles the power of the creature, and everything attached to that power (Umezawas Jitte *cough*) and can split the doubled power making it virtually unblockable.
Umezawas jitte + double strike = 4 counters/turn = +8/+8 or -4/-4 or +8 life

holy snap, so it's actually better than we imagined... and the combo with that card IS unholy. Then just add on a spirit link or whatever it's called to gain even more life (and spirit link always comes back when you need it). you basically win then when you have a couple more sliver abilities to use...
Note: I always think in terms of slivers

Now it explains why they add that spirit link card to that deck. on a 4/2 sliver with double strike (that is almost guaranteed to live in combat) thats up to 8 damage, 8 life from once source. Then tap your fellow slivers with magma sliver (not in the deck..but still) to make it do +x more damage, gaining +x more life. Yay slivers!
